Project: The Wave, Bristol
Architect: APG Architecture
Project Completion: Summer 2019
Product: NORclad® Siberian Larch with NORclad Lite Preservative treatment.
NORclad supplied the external timber cladding to the main building at The Wave, housing their shop, café, ticket office, and changing facilities.
The building sits next to the 180m-long surfing lake, delivering an unrivalled inland surf experience using Wavegarden cove technology, which can generate up to 1,000 quality waves per hour, ranging from 50cm (1.7ft) to almost 2m (6.5ft) in height.
We worked closely with the Architects to find a suitable product and generate a specification that was suitable for this environment – utilising a Certified NORclad® Siberian Larch, the specification also includes our NORclad Lite (previously MicroPro) preservative treatment applied to the timber.
The preservative treatment provides a formal warranty on the product for 30 years against rot and fungal decay (out of ground contact).
Products specified, Treatment Services applied under ISO 9001 factory controlled conditions.
Further builds on the site will include 25 glamping pods for the visiting surfers to use as accommodation, promoting Bristol as a getaway destination. The Wave hopes to become a place for relaxation and education, beyond a surfing destination, reflected in future plans for expansion.
The Wave presents an exciting opportunity both locally and globally; increased attraction to the area coupled with potential training of elite surfers amplifying competitive standing across the world.
NORclad is delighted to have been a part of this sustainable project, sharing many values with The Wave and their focus on reducing environmental impact. Proud to feature in many beautiful builds, NORclad is dedicated to supplying quality timber to create striking sustainable façades.
Attractive and durable, NORclad can preserve and treat timber cladding to ensure longevity.
